Even if you're on a budget, there are several brands that offer excellent electric bikes for less than €1000. Here are our 10 favourite brands for the budget-conscious, as well as our ranking of the cheapest electric bikes you shouldn't miss.

Moma

These bikes, designed in Barcelona and produced in Spain, are very popular. They combine quality workmanship, beautiful design and an attractive price.
The Moma e-bike 26 stands out in particular for its 80 km range, which makes it possible to cover long distances. Lightweight and adjustable, it is suitable for both men and women and can be used in the city as well as for leisurely rides. From a technical point of view, it has a 250W brushless motor with 5 assistance levels and a Shimano Tx31 7-speed gearbox.
The only downside is that the motor's power is limited on steep slopes or when carrying a heavy load.

Essential B

The Essentiel B brand was created in 2005 by the French retailer Boulanger. These French VAEs are seductive for their build quality, aesthetics and the assistance they offer at a low price.
The Urban Trail 2000 represents a good choice of inexpensive MTB electric bikes, while the Urban 400 offers a pleasant ride that will accompany you around town. In both cases, these bikes are not suitable for all sizes of cyclist, so be sure to check that they're right for you.

Biwbik

Made in Spain, Biwbik bikes are above all stylish bikes with a vintage look that will give you style in town. Sturdy and comfortable with adjustable handlebars, a wide seat, mudguard and solid suspension, this electric bike is a great value. In terms of performance, it is equipped with a 250 watt electric motor while its battery offers a range of between 40 and 80 kilometres depending on the assistance mode chosen. Made of steel, it can be a little heavy when riding uphill or without electric assistance.

Speedrid

The Speedrid bike is above all a good value for money: robust components, numerous accessories available, an attractive style... it is an EAB that is suitable for both men and women. The ANEB007 model from Speedrid is a cheap MTB model that can accompany you in town thanks to its folding functionality. Small disadvantages: its non-adjustable handlebars and its difficulty of assembly.

Nakamura

The Nakamura brand, part of the Intersport group, is just over 25 years old and aims to create affordable electric bikes, whether MTB, VTC or city bikes. Often praised for its value for money, Nakamura collaborates with well-known equipment manufacturers such as Shimano, Campagnolo and Sram, to ensure that their bikes perform well. Btwin

Btwin is Decathlon's brand of electric bikes. They offer a wide range of EABs, whether they are city bikes, VTCs or MTB. 
Located in the middle of the Decathlon electric bike range, the Elops 920 offers good value for money. Designed for commuting, it is very comfortable and ergonomic with its wide seat, curved handlebars and well positioned frame. 
Moreover, technically it is equipped with a Brose central engine, disc brakes at the front and V-brake at the rear and a Shimano 7 speed transmission. Beware that it can take a long time to recharge, even if its autonomy is very good. This city bike is also a bit heavy with its 26 kg.

Scrapper

Scrapper is Go Sport's flagship range of EAVs. The Scrapper E Urban 2.0 is a city bike that is positioned just under 1000 euros. For a bike priced at less than 1000 euros it has a 468Wh battery giving it a range of 70km, 6 electric assistance modes and an LCD screen sharing information with you in real time. Like many affordable bikes, it is nevertheless equipped with skid brakes and the electric assistance is solely based on a frequency sensor.

Wayscral

Sold by Norauto, the Wayscral brand is gradually making its mark in the world of electric bikes.
Its Wayscral Everyway E200 28" EAB is one of the best urban bikes for less than 1000 euros. It is close to the VTC thanks to its riding comfort and its large wheels. Equipped with the latest technology, it has a 250 W rear motor, a 7-speed Shimano external transmission and a front suspension with hydraulic fork.
Its battery is probably one of its greatest advantages, with a range of 80km. Its weak point? Its rear wheel motor with a maximum torque limited to 34 Nm as well as its skid brakes.

NCM

NCM is a manufacturer of electric bicycles based in Germany. These are bikes that combine quality, reliability and durability. 
The NCM Hamburg is one of the most complete VTCs under 1000 euros, with a torquey 55 NM motor, an excellent 468 Wh battery and equipment geared towards practicality and comfort. A small bonus for the mudguard, the stand, the rear luggage rack and the anti-theft device which are all integrated. Like many cheap electric bikes, it is nevertheless heavy at 27 kg.

Feuvert 

In 2017 Feu Vert is launching a new collection of VAEs designed and assembled in France.
Their E-Roll 80 electrically assisted bike stands out for its comfort and practicality: DDK Comfort saddle, shock-absorbing suspension fork... It accompanies you smoothly on cobbled streets.
We also like their MTB E-Rox 80 or their Axel model and its 250W motor with a 375 Wh battery for a range of up to 70 km.
Apart from their MTB electric, their bikes are equipped with skid brakes which will be less efficient in the rain.
