Can this beautiful electric bike really handle it all—from Belgian rain to bitter cold? And what exactly does freezing weather do to your precious battery?

I’ve been riding an e-bike myself for years—one that’s often left outside—and I can assure you: a high-quality refurbished electric bike is designed to be ridden, rain or shine. But to extend its lifespan and prevent unnecessary wear and tear, there are a few key things you should know. I’ll walk you through it step by step.

Driving with a frozen battery puts a heavy strain on the battery cells. In very cold weather, reduce the level of assistance—for example, by switching to Eco or Tour mode—to prevent the motor from drawing power too abruptly from cold battery cells.

Reduce the pressure in your tires by 0.3 to 0.5 bar in the winter, while staying within the minimum limit listed on the tire. This will increase the contact area with the road and significantly improve traction on wet or slippery surfaces.
