Choosing the right type of frame

What type of frame is best for me?

There is a wide variety of frame types: for simplicity's sake, we distinguish between closed and open frames.

Closed frame

This type of triangular frame offers the best rigidity (and is therefore found on the vast majority of MTB bikes), but requires you to lift your leg high to get on the bike.

Open frame

On an open frame, the top tube is lowered or absent. It's practical for city use where stops are frequent, or if getting on a bike can be a problem.

Some bike models are available in both open-frame and closed-frame versions.
