Understanding bike mileage refurbished
How is mileage calculated for an electric bike?
The total distance covered by the electric motor can usually be read directly from the bike's console. You can sometimes view this data by zooming in on the photo of the bike's handlebars.
If the electric bike does not have a console, we can obtain this information by performing a motor diagnostic. In the rare cases where the bike has neither a console nor a motor diagnostics tool, we refer to the mileage indicated by the previous owner.
Why do some bikes have very low mileage?
Bicycles sold by Upway come from private individuals as well as professional sellers. It can therefore be a bike that was rarely used by its former owner or, for example, from a store clearance. In any case, these bikes are inspected and reconditioned by our mechanics.
When is mileage considered high?
The natural reflex is to compare an electric bike to a car, whose condition is easily summed up by the total number of kilometers it has covered. However, this comparison is erroneous, because the wear and tear of an electric bike is not directly linked to its use.
The most important component of an electric bike is the battery: in our guide to batteries, we explain why an electric bike can reach 30,000 kilometers without any significant deterioration in its range if it is maintained in the right conditions.
For example, a bike with several thousand kilometers on the clock and a battery that has been properly handled and stored - particularly in winter - is only at the beginning of its life.
💡 At Upway, all our bikes pass through the hands of our professional mechanics who carry out a complete mechanical and electrical diagnosis. We replace batteries that do not have sufficient capacity (less than 80% of the original capacity) as well as all wear parts that are not in a good condition. new (tireschain, cables, etc.).
All our bikes also come with a one-year warranty on frame, motor, battery and electrical components.
