Which fatbike is right for me?

Answer a few questions about your use, budget and preferences, and find out which type of fatbike is right for you - with examples of brands.

Fatbikes are popular in the Netherlands and Belgium thanks to their wide tires , stability and playful looks. But not all models are alike. In our test (see above), you arrive at one of five profiles: Urban Cruiser, Allround Commuter, Adventure Offroad, Compact City or Cargo Utility. Here's what each profile means, and for which types of cyclist it's best suited.

Fatbike Urban Cruiser (moped style)

Fatbike Urban Cruiser (moped style)

This is the most popular style: wide tires from 20 to 26 inches, long saddle and handlebars for an upright, relaxed riding position. Ideal for urban commuting, daily rides of up to 20-30 km and weekend rides.

Suitable if...

  • comfort and style are important to you
  • you like the "brommer" look
  • you drive mainly in town
  • you don't really have any off-road projects

Typical models/brands: Super73, Knaap, Phatfour.
Note: perfect for short/medium-distance journeys; choose a larger battery if you do more than 25 km a day.

Fatbike Allround Commuter

Fatbike Allround Commuter

This is the most versatile category in the test: slightly more active riding position, larger wheels (often 26") and options like mudguards and luggage racks. Perfect for daily trips of 15 to 40 km, in town or on uneven roads.

Suitable if...

  • you're looking for a bike for (almost) everything
  • you ride on cobblestones, gravel or country roads
  • you want a balance between comfort and stability

Typical brands : Rad Power Bikes (RadRhino/RadRunner type), Cube, Giant.
Note: opt for a battery of at least ±600 Wh if you drive 30-40 km a day.

Fatbike Adventure / Offroad

Fatbike Adventure / Offroad

Is your score leaning towards "adventureOffroad"? You've probably indicated that you ride sporty, enjoy a leaner position or ride long distances over rough terrain. Offroad fatbikes offer more power, grip and a stiffer structure.

Suitable if...

  • you explore forest, beach or gravel
  • you do outings of 40 km or more
  • you need high torque for coasting

Brands: Trek, Specialized, Cube e-fatbikes, Rad Power Bikes offroad models.
Please note: offroading consumes more power → 700 Wh battery or more recommended.

Fatbike Compact City

Fatbike Compact City

Do you have a high score on "compactCity"? You're probably looking for a bike that's easy to handle and store. Compact fatbikes have smaller wheels (20 inches), are lighter and excellent for short trips around town.

Suitable if...

  • you have limited parking space
  • you make short journeys (≤15-25 km)
  • you want to get around town quickly

Brands: RadMini models, small Phatfour models.
Note: less suitable for long distances or tall cyclists (>190 cm).

Fatbike Cargo / Utility

Fatbike Cargo / Utility

Your "cargoUtility" result means you probably want to carry some weight: kids, groceries, gear or bags. These models have reinforced frames, sturdy racks and often a longtail design.

Suitable if...

  • you use the fatbike as an alternative to the car
  • you want to transport children/cargo in complete safety
  • you prefer stability to speed

Brands: RadWagon, RadRunner, Tern models with wide tires .
Please note: more weight = more power consumption → 650-800 Wh battery recommended.

Conclusion: understanding your result

The test matches your height, distance, riding position, budget and preferences to one of five fatbike types. Each profile has its own advantages:

  • Urban Cruiser → style & comfort
  • Allround Commuter → versatility
  • Adventure Offroad → power & demanding terrain
  • Compact City → urban agility
  • Cargo Utility → load capacity & families

With this explanation, you know exactly what your result means - and which type of fatbike best suits your daily commute.
