Cube vs Trek: which electric MTB to choose?

Cube is a German brand, and it shows: everything is sturdy and well finished. What I like most about Cube is that they offer a lot for a reasonable price. Most models are equipped with a Bosch Performance CX motor, which makes riding in the woods or on steep climbs really easy. I myself rode a Cube Access Hybrid Pro and immediately noticed the stability and comfort of the frame. The display is clear and gears shift smoothly. The 500 Wh battery is sufficient for a day's outing; only, for a long mountain ride, I'd like to have a little more capacity.

By upgrading to the Cube Reaction Hybrid SL, you benefit from a little more power and equipment: bigger battery, better fork, more powerful brakes. On technical trails, the difference is clear: you gain in confidence and think much less about range or braking safety.

Trek is an American brand, and this is reflected in the design and technology. Trek puts more emphasis on riding pleasure. For example, I tried out a Trek E-Caliber 9.6: a super-light, maneuverable XC. The motor is less powerful than the Bosch, but it provides subtle, natural assistance, like a little nudge, without turning the bike into a moped.

For more technical trails, I tested the Powerfly 7. It's equipped with a Bosch motor (85 Nm), a large battery and generous travel. Ideal if you like to descend drops or climb real mountain passes. The frame has a sportier, more aggressive stance than Cube's - a difference you really feel when riding both brands.

Personally, I'd choose Cube if I wanted good value for money, with a robust frame and powerful assistance. I'd choose Trek if I were looking above all for a sporty riding experience, with more refinement and innovation. The difference is in the details and the sensations.

My advice: try them both! Do a test ride in the store, in the woods or on the trails, and concentrate on how you feel, where you stand and how the motor behaves. The choice is very personal: Cube stands out for its sturdiness and attractive price, Trek for its innovative playfulness.
